Here are five of the new and improved iPad apps in 2012.

Twitter

The Twitter iPad app last updated in April 2012 is another must-have application to download for your tablet. You can keep up with your friends, industry experts and favourite celebrities and get groundbreaking news from all around the world in 140-character updates. The app sets the benchmark for Apple Ipad apps with the user interface, custom-designed for the larger screen and touch capabilities of the tablet.

Kindle for iPad

Apple’s iBooks has got a great selection and a sexier interface but the Kindle for Ipad app is undoubtedly the front runner for e-reader apps in terms of price and selection. In 2012, Amazon released a Kindle app update that is optimised for the high-resolution retina display of the next-generation iPad with crisper fonts and larger-than-life e-book covers that just about jump off the screen.

With the new retina display, you can see the items you are bidding for in glorious technicolour and eBay members will enjoy a new rich search experience. A new “Watch with eBay” tab was added to the app but it is currently only available in America.

The app has been specifically designed for iPad users and the interface makes it easy for you to find everything you need. On the sidebar you have all the same functions that you have on the website. This is a must-have app for people who use the popular social network, last updated in April 2012.

Flipboard

Flipboard enhances your iPad experience by pulling posts from your chosen feeds such as your Facebook newsfeed, tweets and photos from Instagram friends and presenting them to you in an easy-to-read magazine format. The iPad app named Apple’s iPad App of the year and one of TIME’s Top 50 Innovations in 2010, continues to go from strength to strength and is one of the most popular iPad apps.

It’s the apps that really set the Apple iPad apart from other platforms – there are far more apps available for the iPad than any other tablet on the market today. But the best thing is that there all apps have backwards compatibility. The only downfall may be that it may not take advantage of the iPad 3’s new retina display and improved hardware.
